Welcome to the Costello Biogeochemistry Lab at Kent State University. We have a diversity of ongoing research projects related to understanding how impaired water quality alters the functioning of freshwater ecosystems. We rely on freshwater resources for many valuable services, but misuse and over-use can stress these ecosystems. Our lab conducts experiments in the lab and field to understand the mechanisms of how stressors affect ecosystems and we aim to communicate this information to regulators and restoration experts that are protecting our freshwater resources.
